Carers

Are you a carer?

If you look after a partner, family member or friend who is ill or needs support, then you are a carer and have legal rights. You may not think of yourself as a carer, but see what you do as part of your role as a partner, husband, wife, son, daughter or friend. You may not see the need to be labelled as a ‘carer’, but this role can present challenges and pressures that few are prepared for. Accepting that you are a carer can be the first step to getting support, should you need it.

We use the term ‘carer’ here for all who provide unpaid care and support for someone with ME, and the term care worker for those who are paid to provide care.
