Carers Week 2018: healthy & connected

The focus for Carers Week this year is to highlight the need for supporting carers to stay Healthy and Connected. While supporting carers to look after their loved ones well, we need to recognise that they are individuals with health and wellbeing needs of their own.

Around 6.5 million people in the UK are carers, looking after a parent, partner, child or friend.

A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health problem or who needs extra help as they grow older.

Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but sometimes carers find it challenging to take care of their own well-being whilst caring.

Carers can find out more about the support and services available to them in their area at social or info events on the carers week website, or from their local carers service.
