Disability Wales blog post, 23 August 2016: Update: Hold Government Accountable for Disabled People’s Rights – We need to hear from you!

Disability Wales wants to hear from disabled people and people with long-term health conditions how you think the UK, including Wales, is doing in upholding our rights under the  United Nations Convention on the rights of disabled people (UNCRPD).

In 2017 the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities will conduct its first examination of the UK, including Wales, looking at the steps it has taken to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People. The Committee is a body of experts, nominated and elected by governments, the majority of whom are disabled people.

As well as the UK and Welsh Governments giving their view, disabled people and our organisations can prepare and submit shadow or parallel reports, offering an independent account of the national situation from our point of view. The EHRC has funded Disability Wales and Disability Rights UK to produce such a report.
