{"id":11695,"date":"2017-02-02T09:14:23","date_gmt":"2017-02-02T09:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/?p=11695"},"modified":"2017-02-02T09:17:28","modified_gmt":"2017-02-02T09:17:28","slug":"the-interface-between-cfs-depression","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/the-interface-between-cfs-depression\/","title":{"rendered":"The interface between CFS &#038; depression"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Research abstract:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) remains a contentious and\u00a0controversial presentation despite decades of systematic research into\u00a0the presentation from a variety of specialties within the medical and\u00a0associated disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Variously championed as an aetiology of\u00a0immunological, neurological, neurophysiological, psychiatric and\u00a0psychological origin, consensus on a cogent and evidenced-based pathway\u00a0 has yet to be achieved. Irrespective of the ambiguity regarding\u00a0aetiology, what is incontrovertible regarding this most distressing of\u00a0clinical presentations is the experience of significant depression which\u00a0often accompanies this disorder.<\/p>\n<p>The current paper examines the\u00a0potential underlying mechanisms which may determine and explain this\u00a0relationship between CFS and depression and in doing so offer some\u00a0insights which may be of value in the development of evidence based and\u00a0scientifically-anchored interventions to improve outcomes in relation to\u00a0depression specifically and improve quality of life generally, in\u00a0individuals experiencing this diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/repository.edgehill.ac.uk\/8527\/\" target=\"_blank\">The interface between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Depression:\u00a0a psychobiological and neurophysiological conundrum<\/a>, by\u00a0Derek Larkin, Colin Martin <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">in<\/span> <em>Neurophysiologie Clinique\/Clinical Neurophysiology <\/em>[Preprint\u00a0Date: January 26, 2017]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research abstract: The chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) remains a contentious and\u00a0controversial presentation despite decades of systematic research into\u00a0the presentation from a variety of specialties within the medical and\u00a0associated disciplines.
