This book examines a scandal in our generation – a scandal still being\u00a0played out by corrupt, apathetic, inept or ignorant attitudes in\u00a0governments and Medical Research Councils and health services.<\/p>\n

One of the authors (Dr Ian Gibson) in his ‘ Retirement’ has written this\u00a0book with a political friend (Elaine Sherriffs). Ian Gibson has a\u00a0passing interest in the current political scene across the world and\u00a0regularly speaks on these issues.\u00a0When it comes to universal health, he has pointed out on many occasions\u00a0that governments often ignore scientific evidence.<\/p>\n

ME, as described in the book, is a major problem where evidence is\u00a0relegated to psychiatric explanations. It is a desperate need for\u00a0scientists as far as health issues are concerned to look for biomedical\u00a0evidence and ME is a major example.<\/p>\n

This book describes the political manoeuvring which features just like\u00a0those in the TV programme The House of Cards in the USA & the UK which\u00a0described the games that are played in both parliaments. He has\u00a0previously addressed these problems in an early book in 1981 – called\u00a0 ‘Class, Health & Profit’.<\/p>\n

Ian and Elaine have penetrated the murky world of politics which\u00a0features in the world of ME. It is long past the time to treat this as a\u00a0serious illness and the need for serious biomedical research. This will\u00a0only come about when politicians and the media stop trivialising the\u00a0illness.<\/p>\n

Science, Politics …… and ME is a book which will serve as a\u00a0reference for the dark times, when patients were ill-served by the clash\u00a0of interests between truths and untruths. It is also a book which comes\u00a0at a time where a brighter future may be in the making for people with\u00a0ME and their families.<\/p>\n
