This replaced the READ (CTV3) coding system.<\/p>\n<p>The International update of SNOMED CT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.snomed.org\/news-articles\/july-2018-snomed-ct-international-edition-release-available\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was released on 31 July 2018<\/a> with a new code for CFS and and its Synonym terms &#8211; SCTID: 52702003 &#8211;\u00a0 under\u00a0<em>Disorder of nervous system.<\/em>\u00a0 (The code for FM is 203082005 and the PVFS code remains SCTID 51771007).<\/p>\n<p>The coding system is\u00a0used in over 30 countries. SNOMED CT is the recommended terminology system in the UK,\u00a0US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia and is in line with the WHO\u00a0ICD-10 codes to make it easier to use them both together.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks are due to The Countess of Mar, chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forward-me.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forward ME<\/a> Group and Suzy Chapman of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dxrevisionwatch.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DxRevisionWatch.com<\/a>\u00a0who have been campaigning for ME and CFS to be acknowledged as neurological.<\/p>\n<p>The UK SNOMED update is due to be released in October 2018 and this\u00a0is scheduled for adoption across all UK NHS clinical settings by 2020. NHS Wales acknowledges that it will take time to be in full use in Wales. In October 2017 the Welsh Government published <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.co.uk\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=6&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjLhNWx09DcAhUnMewKHUiMCmkQFjAFegQIAxAC&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.assembly.wales%2Fministerial%2520statements%2520documents%2Fstatement%2520of%2520intent%2520%25E2%2580%2593%2520better%2520use%2520of%2520health%2520and%2520care%2520data%2520for%2520safe%2C%2520effective%2520care%2520and%2520efficient%2520services%2F20171019%2520-%2520final%2520-%2520english%2520-%2520statement%2520of%2520intent%2520-%2520better%2520use%2520of%2520health.pdf&amp;usg=AOvVaw1jrT8ZmQd8LzCKiWmCabfJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a S<em>tatement of Inten<\/em>t<\/a> regarding health and care data:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We are increasingly\u00a0focusing standardisation effort on the quality of data captured in operational systems\u00a0which has the advantage of driving up the quality of data for direct care, and for\u00a0purposes beyond direct care. We now have clinical information standards, such as\u00a0SNOMED CT, which are key components of electronic patient records.
