It has a profound long-term impact on the life of the affected person.<\/p>\n
ME\/CFS is diagnosed primarily by the exclusion of other fatigue illnesses, but the availability of multiple case definitions for ME\/CFS has complicated diagnosis for clinicians. There has been ongoing controversy over the nature of ME\/CFS, but a recent detailed report from the Institute of Medicine (Academy of Sciences, USA) concluded that ME\/CFS is a medical, not psychiatric illness.<\/p>\n
<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21800 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?resize=210%2C300&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?resize=210%2C300&ssl=1 210w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?resize=105%2C150&ssl=1 105w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?resize=768%2C1100&ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?resize=715%2C1024&ssl=1 715w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/anatomy-biology.jpg?w=894&ssl=1 894w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 210px;
