We have previously reported increased levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) in these patient groups compared to healthy controls and wanted to further explore the levels of circulating <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chp.edu\/research\/clinical-studies\/transplant\/immune-markers-normal-blood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">immune markers<\/a> in these populations.<\/p>\n<p>The population consisted of three groups, 58 patients with FM, 49 with CFS and 54 healthy controls. All participants were females aged 18\u201360. Patients were recruited from a specialised university hospital clinic and controls were recruited by advertisement among the staff and students at the hospital and university.<\/p>\n<p>Plasma levels of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interferon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interferon<\/a> (IFN)-\u03b3, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interleukin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interleukin<\/a> (IL)-1\u03b2, IL-1ra, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-17, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CXCL10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Interferon gamma-induced protein<\/a> (IP)-10, Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein (MCP)-1, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Transforming_growth_factor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transforming Growth Factor<\/a> (TGF)-\u03b21, TGF-\u03b22, TGF-\u03b23 and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tumor_necrosis_factor_alpha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tumour Necrosis Factor<\/a> (TNF)-\u03b1 were analysed by multiplex. Differences between the three groups CFS, FM and controls, were analysed by Kruskal Wallis tests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CCL2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MCP-1<\/a> was significantly increased in both patient groups compared to healthy controls. IL-1\u03b2, Il-4, IL-6, TNF-\u03b1, TGF-\u03b21, TGF-\u03b22, TGF-\u03b23, IL-10 and IL17 all were significantly lower in the patient groups than healthy controls. IFN-\u03b3 was significantly lower in the FM group.
