 <\/p>\n

As we acknowledge the contribution of nurses on International Nurses Day, we remember that nurses too can be confined to home with a virus.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"You have always been there
\n– my nurse
\nmy night nurse, my day nurse
\nmy named nurse,<\/p>\n

you have always been with me
\nas I lay for hours
\ndespondent,
\nindifferent,
\ndrifting along with the radio waves,<\/p>\n

you reached for the remedies,
\nyou decided on plans of intention,
\nyou brought along the nutrients
\nand the refreshments,<\/p>\n

you spent hours wondering
\nwhat was this illness
\nthat had no medical feature,
\nbut all the symptoms of serious disability.<\/p>\n

\"\"Now you stand back a little as walks become longer,
\nas life turns pleasant again.
\nOutings take place,
\nand occasional plans are made.<\/p>\n

But you will never leave me,
\nbecause you are with me,
\nbecause you are me I am you,
\nI that I am,
\nI am my own nurse,
\nMy nurse is me.<\/p>\n

\u00a0What it is to nurse oneself,
\nmy lifetime career.<\/p>\n

Mair was a nurse for 15 years before ME forced her to leave the NHS. Gradually her health improved until she was able to enjoy walking again.
