An ME\/CFS Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) was set up to determine what should be prioritised.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over 5,300 ideas for research were submitted, then they\u00a0 were prioritised.\u00a0 On World ME Day, May 12th 2022 the final report with the top 10+ research priorities was published.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-35587 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=300%2C169&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=150%2C84&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=768%2C432&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?resize=1536%2C864&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Prioritise-ME-Top-10-4.png?w=1600&amp;ssl=1 1600w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/169;\" \/>\u201c<em>Now that we have the Top 10+, researchers, funders and government must work with people with ME\/CFS to produce the highest quality research into these areas, and continue to prioritise ME<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gemma Hoyes,\u00a0PSP\u00a0steering group member<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The UK Health Secretary responded positively and <a href=\"https:\/\/meassociation.org.uk\/2022\/06\/governments-commitment-to-me-cfs-starts-to-take-shape\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">held a meeting<\/a> on the 9th June 2022 to discuss ME\/CFS research with researchers, charity and patient representatives, representatives from the government bodies who fund research (MRC, NIHR), and with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/lucy-chappell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Lucy Chappell<\/a> \u2013 the DHSC Chief Scientific Advisor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI welcome the publication of this Priority Setting Partnership which sets out the Top 10+ research priorities for ME. How is this best treated and managed?\u200b<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"timeline-Tweet-author js-inViewportScribingTarget\">\n<div class=\"TweetAuthor \" data-scribe=\"component:author\">\n<h3><strong>Priority 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Which existing drugs used to treat other conditions might be useful for treating ME\/CFS, such as low dose naltrexone, or drugs used to treat Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)?\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">How can an accurate and reliable diagnostic test be developed for ME\/CFS?\u200b<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 4<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Is ME\/CFS caused by a faulty immune system? Is ME\/CFS an autoimmune condition?\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 5<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Are there different types of ME\/CFS linked to different causes and how severe it becomes? Do different types of ME\/CFS need different treatments or have different chances of recovery?\u200b<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 6<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Why do some people develop ME\/CFS following an infection? Is there a link with long-COVID?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 7<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">What causes the central and peripheral nervous systems (brain, spinal cord and nerves in the body) to malfunction in people with ME\/CFS? If yes, how does this affect the risk of ME\/CFS in families? Could this lead to new treatments?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 9<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">What causes ME\/CFS to become severe?\u200b<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 10<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">How are mitochondria, responsible for the body\u2019s energy production, affected in ME\/CFS? Could this understanding lead to new treatments?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Priority 10+<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">Does poor delivery or use of oxygen within the body cause ME\/CFS symptoms?
