For World ME Day, 12th May 2023\u00a0<\/strong>
\n“M.E. – the disease where pushing harder can make you sicker”\u00a0<\/em>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shattered…
\nBattered…<\/p>\n

Shell-shocked…
\nDazzled…<\/p>\n

Detonated from sleep…
\nBy explosion in my brain.<\/p>\n

Perspiration…
\nProstration…
\nNausea…
\nPain…<\/p>\n

I lie quietly, tightly,
\nBarely daring to breathe…<\/p>\n

Yesterday, did too much…??
\nAnd triggered PEM…
\nAgain…<\/p>\n

I long to return to the life that I had…
\nExcitement and routine…
\nHighs and lows…
\nGood and bad…<\/p>\n

But I must lie silent,
\nIsolated in time…<\/p>\n

Life-denied…
\nSoul-destroyed…
\nInexpressibly sad…<\/p>\n

Notes<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is the worsening of symptoms in ME,\u00a0 following even minor physical or mental exertion.\u00a0 Symptoms typically worsen 12 to 48 hours after activity and last for days or even weeks.”<\/p>\n

“Malaise”, lit. “ill-at-ease”, does not begin to describe it…. “collapse” a much better descriptor.<\/p>\n
