{"id":47158,"date":"2025-08-09T10:48:52","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T09:48:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/?p=47158"},"modified":"2025-08-12T11:33:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T10:33:00","slug":"severe-me-day-8-aug-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wames.org.uk\/cms-english\/severe-me-day-8-aug-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Severe ME Day &#8211; 8 Aug 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Severe ME Day &#8211; a day to remember<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Severe ME Day was established by the <a href=\"https:\/\/25megroup.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25% Group<\/a> on August 8th was chosen in remembrance of <a title=\"Sophia Mirza\" href=\"https:\/\/me-pedia.org\/wiki\/Sophia_Mirza\">Sophia Mirza<\/a>, a severe\u00a0<a class=\"mw-lingo-term\" data-lingo-term-id=\"9ee9d85a86f0118c40ba2385bb314fd7\" data-hasqtip=\"6\">ME<\/a> patient who died of the disease. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/>WAMES joins the WMEA in featuring a short video that marks &#8216;A day in darkness&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/16nW3WYhoZHTGGgyekVPbrnJ86prJqAS7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">English<\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1I6O8N5vSugpkamSm2TerpJGKjIZC-qPh\/view?usp=drive_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cymraeg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As well as leaving many with ME\/CFS confined to their homes, bedbound, or even immobile, the severe manifestation of the illness also can result in a single person experiencing 50 &#8211; 100 symptoms. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meresearch.org.uk\/severe-me-day-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MERUK<\/a> gives an introduction to the profound effect these symptoms can have.<\/p>\n<p>Many activities this year aim to highlight the need for better understanding and education about the severe and very severe experience of ME.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unpaid carers &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/25megroup.org\/campaigning\/severe-me-day-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">25% ME Group<\/a> recognises the essential role of unpaid carers in supporting the severely affected as they can be sensitive to stimuli and cannot cope with care workers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clinicians&#8217; resource &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>The World ME Alliance have produced a new resource to help physicians learn about caring for peple with severe ME in crisis situations: <a href=\"https:\/\/worldmealliance.org\/2025\/08\/new-clinician-resource-guide-published-for-severe-me-day-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Supporting People with Severe and Very Severe ME\/CFS: A Resource Guide for Clinicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Severe ME Art project &#8211; Kara\u2019s dream was to raise \u00a3100,000 for ME research.
