Learn about the co-operative approach to managing Direct Payments at a series of events across Wales during June.

People (or citizens) eligible for a Community Care Package from their local authority can opt to receive money instead (a direct payment). They then become members of a Direct Payment co-operative which will be ‘citizen directed’. This means: allowing people choice, voice and control.

The co-operative will be owned and run by its members. Every member will have a say as to how the co-operative is run.

Members of the co-operative can make effective use of Direct Payments by sharing resources and poling payments. Members would still have the control to choose, hire and manage their personal assistant(s). But the admin responsibility that comes with being an employer can be dealt with by the co-operative, instead of the individual.
