Men’s Shed Garden Party in Newport, Gwent – Thursday 7th June 2018

Come along to Summerhill Baptist Church, Albert Avenue, Maindee, Newport NP19 8FT between 2pm and 4:3pm on Thursday 7th June and find out more about Newport’s first Men’s Shed.

This is your chance to find out about this fantastic initiative which is providing new opportunities for men in Newport.  Life changes such as retirement, illness or family circumstances can leave some feeling isolated or at a loss to find something meaningful to do in the company of like-minded people. This is where Men’s Sheds can help.

At this open event you can speak to Chris Southern, Development Officer for SE Wales with Men’s Shed Cymru and members of Newport Uskmouth Rotary Club who have been instrumental in getting this project off the ground.

‘Some of the first men who came along to our Men’s Shed meeting were interested in gardening so we set up a gardening group that is now transforming the area at the rear of the church.  However, we know that gardening is not for everyone and we have the opportunity to develop other aspects of the Newport group to appeal to a wider audience.

We are hoping that people will come along on 7th June and help us to identify new hobbies and interests that can take place at this site. Ultimately, we plan to have a dedicated new shed by the end of this year that can be used throughout the week by all different groups. At the end of the day it is group members who are in the driving seat. We are just here to help them achieve their goals’ says  John Ducker, project director and member of Newport Uskmouth Rotary.
