The Welsh Government has decided to withdraw core funding for Wales’ National Children and Young People’s Assembly with effect from September 30th this year and has recently announced that no other Welsh Government funding will be made available. Funky Dragon which has provided a national platform for young people across Wales to influence the policies of the Welsh Government and the National Assembly for the past 12 years is set to be closed down.

The nature of the work with government means that core funding can only be provided by government. All other funding depends on that core funding.

Without Funky Dragon Wales will be the only nation in the UK or Europe without its own national Youth Assembly.  Establishing Funky Dragon as a young people-led national assembly was a brave and innovative move, by the then Welsh Assembly in the early days of devolution. The organisation has served as an important and well respected example of good practice from Wales, revered on the international stage and an easy way for young people with ME to make their voices heard.

How you can help?

Your support is essential if we are to persuade Welsh Government to re-think its decision and restore core funding – without such funding Funky Dragon cannot survive.

Please support the campaign by
