Welsh Government press release: Welsh Language Standards – Improving services for Welsh speakers within the health sector

Safonau’r Gymraeg – Gwella gwasanaethau’r sector iechyd i siaradwyr Cymraeg

These standards will enable the Welsh Language Commissioner to place duties in relation to the Welsh language on bodies in the health sector.

End of consultation:   14 Oct 2016

The regulations which specify the standards have been drafted with the aim of:

  • improving the Welsh language services Welsh-speakers can expect to receive from bodies in the health sector
  • increasing the usage of Welsh language services by offering a service in Welsh without people having to request it
  • making it clear to bodies what they need to do in terms of the Welsh language
ensuring that there is an appropriate degree of consistency in terms of the duties placed on bodies in the same sectors.

Views are being sought from members of the public, the bodies that will be subject to this set of standards, and anyone else with an interest in them.
